Single American mother Ann Lake (Carol Lynley) and her young daughter, Bunny, have recently settled in London. But when Ann goes to retrieve Bunny after the girl's first day at school, she is horrified to discover there is no sign of her daughter and no evidence that she was ever there. And once Scotland Yard Superintendent Newhouse (Laurence Olivier) joins in the search, he unearths several disturbing details about Ann...
