During lockdown Kate’s taken up football training and is trying to write her first novel, Jesus and the Green Shield Stamps, based on her most recent stage play, which, she says “given the state of theatre now will never see the light”.
What was the first film you saw at film club?
Animal Kingdom. I loved it.
What’s been your favourite film at film club?
The Public Enemy, the Jimmy Cagney movie.
What’s been your least favourite film at film club?
That weird Alice in Wonderland on acid kinda film didn't float my boat much but that’s me! (That’s this one!)
Which film that you voted for are you most annoyed has lost the vote?
Jean-Luc Godard’s À bout de Souffle.
What’s a favourite film of yours you’d love to see at film club
The Big Chill. Fabulous soundtrack and good actors. I love bittersweet and dark comedy.
Tell us a theme and three choices you’d put up for the vote.
I should say Powell and Presburger but in these times I keep my reading heavy and my movies light so I think I need... tap dancing (I go to classes but I'm a long way off Debbie Reynolds). I love all the old musicals not for the terrible plots but the numbers. So, West Side Story, Singin’ in the Rain and Guys and Dolls.
What’s your most memorable cinematic experience?
A memorable experience would be an early snog in the back row so I couldn’t tell you the film but possibly Butch Cassidy or was it The Sting?
What was the last film you saw that you’d recommend?
The last film I saw and would recommend is The Florida Project.
