When unemployed ex-marine, Michael Williams (Nicolas Cage), stumbles into a bar in Red Rock, Wyoming, the owner, Wayne (JT Walsh), mistakes him for a hired killer and offers him $10,000 to kill his wife, Suzanne (Lara Flynn Boyle). Michael decides to take the money and pretend to play along, but things get complicated when a) he finds himself falling for Suzanne and b) the real killer (Dennis Hopper) turns up looking for his money… A classic and thoroughly enjoyable Neo-noir from writer-director John Dahl (who followed this film up with The Last Seduction).
