Screened in tribute to Vangelis (1943 - 2022)
In the dystopian nightmare of a near-future L.A. Harrison Ford stars as Rick Deckard: one-time "blade runner" whose job it was to track down bioengineered humanoids known as replicants and terminally "retire" them. When four replicants steal a ship in space and return to Earth, Deckard is forced to come out of retirement to pursue and retire the rogue replicants before they locate and kill their creator. With a majestically melancholic score by Vangelis and a visually stunning depiction of a rain and neon-soaked L.A. courtesy of SFX wiz Douglas Trumbull, Ridley Scott’s Blade Runner is an equalled slice of sci-fi-noir. (And to make it even more noirish we’re going to be screening the original theatrical release with Harrison Ford’s world-weary narration.) The great supporting cast includes Rutger Hauer, Sean Young, Edward James Olmos, M. Emmet Walsh and Daryl Hannah.
