When Hong Kong couple Ho Po-Wing (Leslie Cheung) and Lai Yiu-Fai (Tony Leung Chiu-Wai ) visit Argentina on holiday, they soon find themselves lost while on a sightseeing excursion in the jungle. Over time the couple become locked in a turbulent cycle of infatuation and destructive jealousy as they break up, make up, and fall apart again and again. With incredible cinematography from Christopher Doyle (in both luminous monochrome and luscious saturated colour), Wong Kar Wai’s emotionally raw, lushly stylised portrait of a relationship in breakdown is one of the most searing romances of the 1990s.
