Forced by his mother to study the trumpet, Bleek Gilliam (Denzel Washington) grows up to become the leader of a successful jazz quintet managed by his inexpert friend Giant (Spike Lee). But when the band’s sax player, Shadow (Wesley Snipes) tries to replace Giant with a better businessman a power struggle develops between the two musicians... Mo’ Better Blues is a delightful comedy from the usually polemical Spike Lee, and features great support from Cynda Williams as sultry singer Clarke and Giancarlo Esposito as piano-playing Left Hand Lacey.
