In the aggressive self-confidence, the use of rock music, and the perceptive observation, Scorsese reveals an anthropological feel for street life and the attitudes of male adolescence.
— Time Out

Harvey Keitel makes his acting debut as J.R.: a young Italian-American getting his kicks on the mean streets of Little Italy. When he gets involved with a local girl (Zina Bethune) he decides to get married and settle down, but he struggles to reconcile an incident in his girlfriend’s past with his religious upbringing. Who’s That Knocking At My Door? was shot over a period of two years and explores themes of Catholic guilt which Scorsese would return to again and again - from 1973’s Mean Streets, right up to last year’s brilliant return to form, The Irishman.
