Prospero's Books (Peter Greenaway, UK, 1991)

Prosperos-Books-1991-3.jpg
The product of a feverish, overflowing imagination, this almost impossibly dense take on The Tempest displays both the director’s audacious brilliance and lewd extravagance at full tilt.
— Variety

John Gielgud plays the titular Prospero in Peter Greenaway's avant garde adaptation of Shakespeare's The Tempest. An ageing magician living in exile upon an island exacts a strange revenge on the people who betrayed him. Mime, dance, opera, animation, and a hefty dose of nudity combine to delirious effect in this utterly unique adaptation of Shakespeare's last play. Also stars Michael Clark as Caliban, Isabelle Pasco as Miranda, Tom Bell as Antonio, Kenneth Cranham as Sebastian, Mark Rylance as Fernando, with music by Michael Nyman.

No trailer available (but if there was one it'd probably be exactly how you imagine it)
