“Few films top Woody Allen’s Manhattan for capturing New York City’s blend of rapture and apprehension. Noah Baumbach’s Frances Ha comes close.”
Greta Gerwig stars (and also co-wrote the screenplay with director Baumbach) as the eponymous Frances: a self-proclaimed “undateable” 27-year-old New Yorker, with a personal life that teeters on the brink of collapse and a professional life that barely even exists. This is a charming, warm and very funny look at friendship, ambition and the difficulty in existing in the adult world as a “real person”.
