Following on from Woody Allen’s Love and Death, a very different film set during the Napoleonic era, Peter Weir’s epic adaptation Patrick O’Brian’s seafaring novels, Master and Commander. (Here’s the trailer).
Russell Crowe is Jack Aubrey, captain of HMS Surprise and under orders to pursue a French privateer. Alongside him is his friend, Stephen Maturin, the ship’s surgeon played by Paul Bethany and a crew of young well-to-do officers and older, crustier sea-dogs.
Nigel’s been keen to rewatch this since he first saw it in the cinema. But was it Wayne’s cup of tea/tot of rum? Here’s our latest Zoom conversation (the side-by-side view will return next time; we pressed the wrong button).
We’d love to hear what you think of the film once you’ve seen it. Leave a comment here, send us an email, Tweet us @tpfilmclub or post on our Facebook page.
