Is there a book about film that you'd recommend to other members?
Making Movies, Sidney Lumet. It's a joyful, far-ranging overview of how good films are made. As the director of 12 Angry Men, Dog Day Afternoon and other classics, Lumet knew whereof he spoke.
What's your earliest memory of going to the cinema?
My dad bringing me to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze.
What's your most memorable cinematic experience?
At the Leicester Square Odeon in 2016, I saw an emphysematic Paul Schrader introduce Dog Eat Dog. "I've been involved in some important films," he told the crowd, before adding, "This isn't one."
What was the last film you saw outside Film Club and would you recommend it?
Big Night. Yes.
