Screened in tribute to Roger Corman (1926 - 2024)
As the deadly Red Plague sweeps through a medieval Italian province, local Satanist, Prince Prospero (Vincent Price), invites a dozen or so of his noble cronies to his castle to join him in luxurious – and depraved – quarantine. Ignoring the deaths of his local peasants, Prospero decides to throw a masked ball, but is disturbed by the presence of mysterious gate-crasher, dressed entirely in red… Adapted from the Edgar Allen Poe short story, The Masque of the Red Death is a creepy delight (and arguably Corman’s masterpiece) with suitably lurid camera-work supplied by one Nic Roeg.
