“A goofy delight. It’s like a cross between a big-budget Three Stooges movie and a Hope-Crosby road picture, with dozens of old cowpoke gags thrown in to spice up the brew.”
When a trio of unemployed silent film stars are mistaken for their on-screen personas by Mexican villagers (who are searching for someone to help them thwart a malevolent bandit) much hilarity ensues. Steve Martin, Chevy Chase and Martin Short are wonderful as the hapless Amigos and there is a genuine warmth to the movie as a whole.
