Kirk Douglas plays alcoholic star trumpeter, Rick Martin, whose volatile personality and desire to play jazz rather than the restricted tunes of the bands he works for lands him in trouble. Based (loosely) on the life of legendary cornetist, Bix Beiderbecke, Young Man With A Horn co-stars Bix’s real-life bandmate, pianist Hoagy Carmichael, and also features star turns from Lauren Bacall and Doris Day.
