Pat Garrett & Billy the Kid (Sam Peckinpah, USA, 1973)

  • The Lord Palmerston 33 Dartmouth Park Hill London, England, NW5 1HU United Kingdom (map)
There is a sombre, mournful quality which places the film very high up in the league of great Westerns.
— Derek Adams, Time Out

Screened in tribute to Kris Kristofferson (1936 - 2024)

When a group of wealthy cattle barons (led by Jason Robards) call on Sheriff Pat Garrett (James Coburn) to to go after the outlaw Billy the Kid (Kris Kristofferson) Garrett finds himself on the horns of a dilemma: because he and Billy were childhood friends. But a man’s gotta do what a man’s gotta do, so Garrett puts aside sentimentality, saddles up and sets off on the trail of the elusive Kid… With a fantastic soundtrack courtesy of Bob Dylan (including the classic Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door) Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid is one of Peckinpah’s greatest westerns.
